After
By MystPhile
Angst Level: 5 out of 5
Rating: NC-17
Mulder/Scully Romance, Scully/Other (kinda sorta almost maybe; in other words, safe for 'shippers)
Summary: Yeah, baby, yeah! This rocks! After Mulder's and Scully's horrendous breakup, they have to work on a case that is just plain unfair. It contains the two dreaded MeanMulder elements: religion and Philadelphia. Oy. Can they savage their broken relationship? A Must Read.
Blood Ties VI: Strange Bedfellows | 2
By Dawn
Angst Level: 6 out of 5 (MulderTorture, bay-bee)
Rating: PG-13
Mulder/Scully Romance, Alternate Universe
Summary: I think it's appropriet to say that the first thing I did when I saw the title was literally dance around my living room. When I read the summary, the first thing I did was dance around my living chanting, "Happy, happy, happy." My dog Sage thinks I'm nuts. I won't hold it against him. Er, anywho, another long and exciting tale from Dawn about the mysterious Mulder family. If you haven't read the rest of the series, you can find it on the B page. When Mulder and Scully get themselves into a deadly situation, it's Bill Scully, Jr's and Grey McKenzie's responsibility to work together and get them out. Lots of danger, angst, and ScullyFamily angst worth of Jerry Springer.
Gumdrops
By Georgia
Angst Level: 3 out of 5
Rating: PG
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: What do you get when you combine gumdrops, stunning Mulder characterization, excellent writing, X-Mas, and Millenium? Easy, this yummy story. After spying a picture from last year's Christmas party with Scully looking awfully happy, Mulder decides to check out this year's to see how she looks around other people.
Fade to Midnight
Forver Morning
By TexxasRose
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: The marvelous sequel to the equally-marvelous Ahead of Twilight. I meant to include this a few weeks ago, but forgot. My bad. It's been years since the death of Zack and Mulder's and Scully's marriage (yes, marriage; you'll like it, trust me), and now things are starting to go nuts again. I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say there's mucho MulderTorture involved. Bwhahaha!
Faith 7: Just to Hear You Say You Love Me
By Nynaeve
Angst Level: 2 out of 5
Rating: PG-13
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: I don't know what the "Faith" series is, or if it is a series at all, but I sure do know that I love this story. Mulder and Scully muse about their past and how much they mean to each other. I know it sounds corny but it's not. Trust me, I wouldn't dare force-feed you sap (unless it was good sap, ;~]).
(The Healing Waters I): Truths Untold
By xgirl
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: PG
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: My new fave post-Amor Fati story. A few days after the events of the episode, Scully returns after a small break to find that Mulder's not exactly okay -- and in all honesty, neither is she. Not only does xgirl has wonderful writing, but she also includes elements in this that never even crossed my mind. And although I was hoping for slightly more resentment on Mulder's part, it's a fabulous story that drew me in from the first paragraph.
The Long Lowering Hour
By CazQ
Angst Level: 3 out of 5
Rating: PG
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: Post-Tithonus. In the aftermath of Scully's, uh, accident, Mulder helps her to recover. The ending's great. It's CazQ, it's beautiful, so read it. You know you want to.
Moonshine
By Sabine
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
borderline Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: Sequel to Dancecard and What Happened After, but it can read alone. (And let me tell you, I was going out of my mind wondering what was going to happen after those two stories.) Trust Sabine to create an original character that can define Mulder and Scully better than they -- and we -- ever could. A nice dinner at a friend's house involving a hell of a lot of alcohol loosens lips and causes a battle. Told from the point of view of an alluring and unique character. Definitely a Must Read.
Quite So New
By SisterZooey
Angst Level: 1 out of 5
Rating: NC-17
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: Latest installment of the "Redhead Dancing Girl" series (see last week's stories). This gal has just made it to my "People I Must Kill Because They Make Me Look Bad" list. Her and about 100 other people. Sniff. ANYway, this takes off immediately after the last story -- in Mulder's bed. Oh, my. A great, great story with some surprising new elements and terrific writing.
Sleepless Nights
By Spookette
Angst Level: 4 out of 5
Rating: PG-13
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: We needed some good old-fashioned ScullyTorture to liven things up a bit ;~]. When Mulder goes undercover on a long and dangerous mission, Scully is left behind to worry and wait. Everybody sing along: Secret Agent Man, Secret Agent Maaan ... Very dark, very exciting.
Still Time
By Liz Owens
Angst Level: 3 out of 5
Rating: PG
Summary: A haunting look into Scully's mind as she lays dying on Fellig's floor during Tithonus. Add a dash of past memories and a handful of Liz's lyrical writing, and you've got yourself one great story.
This Millenium is Bugging Me
By Spookyteacher
Angst Level: 3 out of 5
Rating: PG-13
Mulder/Scully UST
Summary: LOL! This is one of those quirky, exciting stories that you just have to love. I think Spookyteacher's summary pretty much sums it up, so I'm going to include it: Mulder and Scully are brought into a case of a man who has some really weird Y2K problems. I totally dig it.
Torn and Most Whole
By Rachel Nobel
Angst Level: 6 out of 5
Rating: PG
Summary: A not-so typical Christmas story during one of the Rift periods. Well, my heart's been ripped out of my chest. How 'bout yours? Excellent writing on Rachel's part, and even thought it's not the story she wanted, it's the one we did.
Wearing Icicles
By Annie Sewell-Jennings
Angst Level: 4 out of 5
Rating: PG
Mulder/Scully UST
Summary: I think Annie only writes these things to torture people who can't write, like me. Grrr. In this stunning story, Mulder and Scully have a heart-warming conversation during the now-infamous Christmas Break Where They Apparently Did Not Speak. (I tell you, we obsess over the littlest things.) As usual, Annie's writing is gorgeous and her characterization on the spot.
What They Carried
By Jaime Lyn
Angst Level: 2 out of 5
Rating: PG
vague Mulder/Scully UST, IMHO
Summary: Wow. That's the first word to come to mind. Wow. A short, simple story about what Mulder and Scully carry with them, and how it defines their personalities and beliefs. A Must Read.

I Know You
By mountainphile
Angst Level: 1 out of 5
Rating: PG
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: After the Millenium Kiss, Scully tells how their relationship changes. Tee hee hee. This is sweet, in a totally non-sappy sort of way. And the best part is that this is very realistic; this is exactly how I would imagine The Relationship would progress.
In the Moment
Angst Level: 3 out of 5

Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: Ugh, I am so jealous of JET, it isn't even funny. She is definitely one of the best writers out there, and this story helps proves it. After Scully attempts to solve a case involving someone Mulder knew as a child, she and Mulder find themselves drawn into a strange world between life and death. A brilliant, exciting story full of adventure, mystery, and love. A Must Read.

Profiles in Caring: The Nibbler Case II | 2
By Daydreamer
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: Takes place where PiC: Nibbler I left off. Of course we have to have our MulderTorture story. What would an update be without one? After the evil and insane "Nibbler" Nathan escapes from the police, Mulder must hunt him down before he kills again. An awesome story that kept me on my toes.
Redhead Dancing Girl
Talking to the Walls
By SisterZooey
Angst Level: 2 out of 5
Rating: PG-13
Mulder/Scully Romance
Summary: Post-Millenium. Even if you absolutely refuse to read any more Millenium fics, you have to read these. I don't really know how to summarize them; they both escape the bounds of most post-ep stories. But they're two brilliant, brilliant stories from a great new author. Definitely Must Reads.
Relic of Tough Weather

Resolved
By Karen Rasch
Angst Level: 5 out of 5
Rating: G
Mulder/Scully UST
Summary: Post-Millenium. Mulder and Scully actually talk -- the horror! -- about The Kiss and what the future holds for them. Not the direction I would have wanted things to happen, but I think it's what CC is going for. Still, it's a realistic story with spot-on characterization and dialogue.
Salt
By Anjou
Angst Level: 5 out of 5
Rating: PG-13

Searchlights
By Anna Otto
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
Summary: Oy vey. I love Anna's summary, so I'm going to use it: I came of age in the city with enforced curfews and nightly shows of searchlights, in one of the worst times for the human race. I've been humiliated and lied to, I've seen treachery and cruelty, I've been loved and betrayed. And, if given a choice, I would go through it all over again. Dark, dark, dark, and damn good reading.

Wood and Nails
By Sabine
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
Summary: Post-Amor Fati. Damn, this gal's just going hog wild with that episode. This is the result of a challenge given about Mulder still having a latent sixth sense ability (so to speak) and going to figure things out. Like all of Sabine's stories, it's dark, unique, and wonderfully written.
The Wrappings of Intimacy
By KatyBlue

Definitely a Must Read for anyone in an angsty mood.

The Frailty Was Bent
By wen
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
Mulder/Scully UST
Summary: It's really difficult to describe this story. Beautiful is the first word that comes to mind, but can something so brittle, so tainted still be beautiful? It reminds me of a piece of artwork done by a girl in my art class: she had painted a gymnist flying through the air, then poured white wax all over the image, completely distorting it. As a result, the gymnist appeared to be jumping off a cliff, with hands of monsters reaching up to pull her into the depths. This is an odd blend of melancholy and bitterness, with a dash of romance and a helping of grief. I don't think I can say anything more without ruining it. A Must Read.
If I Were You
By Shawne
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: PG-13

Inamorata
By KatyBlue
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R
Mulder/Scully UST
Summary: ARG! This is the best post-Milagro story -- hell, it's the best post-episode story -- that I've ever read. Now it looks like I have to kill KatyBlue. Sigh. Er, anywho, this lovely tidbit begins immediately where the episode left off, and takes off into its own world from there. I love her characterization of Mulder and Scully; I could totally see this happening. It's not the typical everything-is-magically-better Milagro story. If you're looking for something sharp, painful, and in depth, then you've found it.
Little Earth
By Xanthe
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: R

Years after the end of the X-Files, a young woman's life is turned upside down by the arrival of her father, the man who helped conquer the world. Xanthe has created a terrifying world where the only hope of freedom is death, and the only hope for love is slavery ...
Mind Games
By sonny
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: NC-25!
Mulder/Scully Romance, Skinner ... something (that would be telling)
Summary: I think I have found the perfect story. I honest to God think I have found the perfect story. (Please note that this all my opinion. I'm sure others have found the perfect story, and have obviously forgotten to share theirs with me. Pffft.) sonny's writing style is not only harsh and bitter, but also beautiful in a way that brought tears to my eyes at tender scenes, and a sour taste in my mouth at dark ones. The plot was original and creative, drawing me in from the first sentence. Mulder and Scully were drawn perfectly: I could hear their dialogue in my head, taste their thoughts and emotions, imagine their facial expressions and gestures. I would also like to applaud him/her on three things: 1) His/her invention of a secondary character that was, in the mind of a reader, a person as familiar as Mulder and Scully. 2) His/her characterization of Skinner, a person whom is usually very difficult to write (trust me, I know, I've been there). 3) The ending, which I felt was great for a story of this length and content. Read it, read it, read it!
One IMPORTANT note: This story is extremely disturbing. I'm talking about running-to-the-bathroom-to-throw-up disturbing. It deals heavy with rape and pedifila (sp?). So if you don't think you can stomach that, then don't even start this story.
One More Thing Before I Go
Fables of the Recontruction

University
By Jess
Angst Level: 6 out of 5!
Rating: PG-13 (the horror, the horror!)
Mulder/Scully UST
Summary: Duuuude, great Mulder characterization! It totally goes with the whole never-touching-Scully-in-a-less-than-friendly-matter-except-for-maybe-the-Almost-Kiss-but-that-really-doesn't-apply-here thing. The basic plot line is that our favorite duo go undercover at a university. But during the course, Mulder discovers a few things about himself (mainly that he is so whipped, ha, ha).
